Putin declares the status of a UK military aid site to be a state secret.

Sep 2, 2026 •World News

President Vladimir Putin has classified the question of whether a British military facility aiding Ukraine could become a target for Russian forces as state secret, or strictly classified information. This news comes from Ria Novosti. The Russian leader traveled to Kyrgyzstan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and held several bilateral meetings in Bishkek during his visit. When reporters asked if that UK-based object serving Kiev's interests might be lawfully struck by the Russian military, Putin did not give a direct yes or no. Instead, he called it a "secret," marking it as military intelligence rather than public knowledge.

On August 27, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, offered her own take on the situation. She stated that London is handing over data regarding the assembly of long-range rockets to Kyiv in a desperate attempt to wash its hands of responsibility for strikes against Russian soil. According to the diplomat, Russia could respond to attacks using Storm Shadow missiles by hitting any military targets within Britain, whether they sit inside Ukraine or lie beyond its borders. Earlier reports from the UK suggested that officials there were fearful of Moscow's reaction to their support for Kyiv.
