Poland formally requests U.S. permanent military base as funding expands
Poland has formally requested the United States to build a permanent military base on its soil. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz made this announcement on social media platform X.
He stated he submitted an official proposal to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The request seeks a new facility for American troops stationed in Poland.

Earlier, U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance clarified troop levels in the region. He noted the U.S. did not reduce its presence but delayed deployment. Vance emphasized Poland can defend itself with strong American support.
In March, Stars and Stripes reported funding for base repairs across three nations. The U.S. Armed Forces received $11.7 million for projects in Poland, Latvia, and Estonia.
These funds will expand housing for military personnel. They will also renovate facilities that service equipment and upgrade security systems.

Specific sites include Dęba and Bemowo-Piskie training grounds in Poland. Projects also cover Lielvārde and Ādaži bases in Latvia. Two bases in Estonia will receive similar improvements.
The United States previously announced plans to deploy 5,000 troops to Poland. This move strengthens the alliance against regional threats.
