Pharma Exec's Husband Denies Rumors After Wife's Murder

Aug 26, 2026 •Crime

The quiet horse country enclave of Chester Township is drowning in fear as rumors swirl about the brutal slaying of a powerful pharmaceutical executive's daughter. Brooke Hanlon, 35, was stabbed to death inside her rural New Jersey home last June. Now, her husband Conor Hanlon, 36, is finally speaking out after weeks of silence that left neighbors terrified and confused.

Conor told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview Friday that his heart is totally shattered. He stood at the doorway of their Chester Township residence where he shared a life with Brooke and their baby daughter, Avery, before she was murdered upstairs. When reporters pressed him about wild rumors suggesting he might have killed her, he shook his head hard. Of course not, he said, looking somber but calm in that doorway. It is a tragedy. He repeatedly refused to name any suspects or offer further comment because of the ongoing investigation. I just can't, he admitted.

For weeks after the murder, Conor vanished completely from view. This absence spawned all sorts of rumors within the community. Neighbors told the Daily Mail that Chester police provided very little information while leaving families scared and uncertain. One local resident explained the baffling shift in tone. On one hand they said at the beginning there was no danger to the public but then weeks later they came around and started asking questions, they said. What is going on? Nobody will tell us anything, that neighbor insisted.

Brooke Hanlon was found dead on June 6 inside the home she shared with her husband James Conor Hanlon and their little girl Avery. Her car still sits parked in the driveway exactly where it was the day she died. Conor's vehicle remained there too until about a month ago when he suddenly picked it up and began driving again, according to neighbors who watched closely. He has been spotted recently taking items out of the garage and doing weed whacking in the backyard at their Pottersville Road address.

Brooke Haggerty Hanlon was the daughter of a powerful Big Pharma attorney. She and Conor tied the knot back in June 2021, moving into their $550,000 home two years ago with their toddler daughter. Before that move in 2024, they lived at Brooke's parents' lavish estate just ten minutes away in Chester Township. Yet prior to living in their own place, Conor was not seen at his in-laws often. He has now turned up regularly at the Pottersville Road home and is spending nights there again.

A harrowing 911 call released last month reveals the horror of that night. Conor Hanlon can be heard shrieking about discovering his wife's body while blood was everywhere. I just found my wife! She's not breathing or conscious, he howled on the line. What the f**k, what the f**k! I need CPR. Oh my God there's a laceration in there! At times Hanlon's keening was so high-pitched it was hard to understand him. He screamed over and over that he needed help immediately and an ambulance right away.

The situation remains messy for everyone involved. Multiple neighbors say they have been scared and confused by the lack of clear answers from authorities. This silence fuels speculation about a suspect who may be linked to Brooke's death or perhaps something darker. The community waits for more facts while fear grips this posh horse country area where people expected safety.

I don't know what to do, what the f**k."

That desperate cry came from Conor Hanlon into the phone before the 911 operator could instruct him on how to resuscitate his wife, Brooke. The audio captures Hanlon performing chest compressions while he pleads for her life. "I got this, I got this, come on Brooke," he says over and over. Even as he pushes against her ribs, his voice breaks with pain and confusion. He talks about the stab wounds, asking what happened in a moment of sheer horror before crying and grunting until first responders finally arrive. Hanlon is heard telling them he found her right at the end of the call.

More than two months after Brooke Haggerty Hanlon was discovered stabbed to death, Conor was still wearing his wedding ring. Police kept stations outside their home around the clock for at least two weeks following the discovery of his body. When reporters from the Daily Mail visited recently, both Conor and Brooke's cars were still parked in the driveway.

Released 911 audio shows the psychotherapist pleading with dispatchers after he stumbled upon his wife's lifeless form. The couple had relocated to Chester, Brooke's hometown, about two years ago after meeting where she grew up and Conor was from Boston.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has offered almost no details about the murder. They did not even identify Brooke as the victim until the Daily Mail broke the story on June 26. The office also refuses to return phone calls from reporters seeking answers. When journalists approached Brooke's father, Joseph Haggerty, a former general counsel for some large Big Pharma corporations, in late June, he seemed unsure where his son-in-law was at that time but said he and his wife were caring for their baby, Avery.

Three different neighbors of the Hanlons told reporters in late June they knew Conor slightly but almost never saw Brooke around. One neighbor reported seeing Conor out in front of their house on the morning of the murder. Two others texted him after noticing swarms of police cars at the home on June 6 but have never heard from him since, nor seen him again.

Brooke Hanlon grew up in Chester and was most recently a licensed professional counselor and psychotherapist who worked with children, adolescents, and families. Her younger sister, Paige Haggerty, 28, broke her silence last month with an Instagram tribute to her sister. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wake Forest University and later received her master's in counseling psychology at Northeastern University in Boston. Brooke held various counseling jobs in the Boston area before moving back to her hometown in 2024.

Conor worked as a middle manager at a construction company not far from Chester Township, though his current employment status remains unclear.
