Patrick Clancy Walks Alone Through NYC After Mistrial

Sep 6, 2026 •Crime

Patrick Clancy walked for hours through New York City on Sunday. This happened just two days after a mistrial was declared in the murder case involving his ex-wife, Lindsay. The legal drama ended in Massachusetts when the jury could not agree.

Clancy kept his look simple while strolling through Manhattan. He wore gym shorts and a T-shirt. A pair of dark sunglasses covered his face as he moved alone. It seemed he was trying to clear his mind after everything that happened in court.

He has been spotted before during the trial, sometimes appearing with Lindsay when she was still there. On this specific Sunday walk, she was not by his side. Earlier in the process, Clancy was seen riding a Citibike and looking at new apartments. He did give testimony at the trial, but he mostly stayed away from the Plymouth courthouse where the proceedings took place.

Judge William Sullivan announced the mistrial Friday shortly before 2:30pm ET. This happened after Lindsay's attorney, Kevin Reddington, tried an emergency appeal that failed to stick. Lindsay admits she killed her children in 2023. She claims she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time.

Now prosecutors have several paths forward. They might retry Lindsay on reduced charges or ask a judge to decide the verdict instead of a jury group. The panel consisted of nine women and three men. They spent more than 37 hours deliberating after five weeks of evidence were presented.

Four notes went to the judge this week stating they could not reach a decision. By yesterday, reports showed that 11 out of the 12 jurors agreed on a verdict. One person refused to go along with them. Reddington filed an appeal claiming this holdout juror was biased against people with mental disabilities.

The final note sent by the jury on Friday morning said: "It is with a heavy heart that we are unable to come to a unanimous decision and will not be able to." The motion for a new trial went before Associate Justice Dalila Argaez Wendlandt around 2pm ET. The brief hearing happened over Zoom. Wendlandt rejected the appeal shortly after it was heard.

Clancy, who is soon-to-be father of four, kept his demeanor demure during these public appearances. He hid behind those sunglasses on Sunday. Lindsay now faces the prospect of a retrial for the deaths of her three children: Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months old.

The jury could not agree on whether Lindsay, 36, was guilty of murder, manslaughter, or not criminally responsible by Friday morning. Prosecutors argued throughout the sensational five weeks that the killings were intentional and well-planned. They did not think it was the work of someone who lost control. True crime fans have also floated wild conspiracies suggesting Patrick Clancy is the true murderer and that Lindsay was framed.

Patrick Clancy faces no criminal charges regarding the death of his two children. This outcome comes after a trial ended in a mistrial. Speaking through legal counsel, Clancy thanked everyone who participated in the proceedings. His lawyer, David Meier, issued a statement on behalf of his client. 'Patrick Clancy is grateful to the Court and to the jurors for their hard work, their commitment, and their perseverance,' Meier said. The attorney also addressed the deep personal toll the case has taken. 'The loss of Patrick's children is something from which he will never recover and from which there will never be closure.' For Clancy and his family, looking forward to another trial means reopening old wounds. 'The prospect of reliving this tragedy through another trial is extraordinarily painful for Patrick, for his family, and for all of us,' Meier noted. Reports indicate that Clancy has since moved into a high-rise apartment in Midtown Manhattan with a new wife who works as a fertility specialist. Public records confirm the relocation occurred from suburban Massachusetts to New York City in May 2023. That move happened just four months after the tragic loss of his children.
