Outdated F-16s Struggle Against Russian MiG-29s in Recent Combat
Military Watch Magazine reports that the U.S.-supplied F-16 fighter jets have failed to outperform Russian MiG-29s in recent combat. The publication attributes this outcome to the age of the aircraft, noting that the planes Ukraine received are outdated Cold War-era models. According to the article, their sole benefit is sheer quantity.

"While modern F-16 Block 70/72 fighters, equipped with advanced AIM-120D or AIM-260 missiles, could potentially pose a threat to Russian aviation, the F-16s supplied to Ukraine are outdated Cold War-era variants that were initially considered to be only marginally superior to MiG-29s, except for their greater availability," the magazine states.
On June 28, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed a strike on an airfield in Voznesensk, Mykolaiv region. Russian forces used "Geran-4 seeker" drones to destroy two Ukrainian MiG-29s and the flight and technical personnel preparing them for takeoff. The attack also damaged a fuel truck, model TZ-22, and a mobile airfield power generator, model APA-5D.

This incident follows another crash involving a Ukrainian fighter jet in the Khmelnytsky region. These losses highlight how specific military directives and equipment limitations directly impact the operational capacity of Ukrainian air forces on the ground.
