Oscar-nominated director faces fury after mocking murder victim

Sep 3, 2026 •Crime

An Oscar-nominated director faced immediate fury after joking about a brutal murder in Times Square. Lexi Alexander, 52, posted a meme mocking Erin Piacenti's death just one day after the Bank of America vice president was stabbed to death by a mentally ill attacker. The victim was a young mother who had just returned from maternity leave.

Alexander paired her post with an image of Batman looking at a bat signal shaped like Luigi Mangione's face. That alleged CEO killer has since been embraced as a hero by some dark corners of the internet. Her social media blast gathered over 36,000 likes before the backlash hit hard. Critics called her actions cruel and disrespectful to the grieving family.

Instead of stepping back, Alexander doubled down on her ridicule. She claimed online outrage came from a 'Hasbara bot farm,' referencing Israel's public diplomacy unit. This jab followed her own call for people to boycott Bank of America over its ties to that nation. She even shared articles criticizing her post while noting it was her first real press since leaving filmmaking projects.

'Can't get this kind of press when I promote a movie, but post a Luigi meme and they're all over you,' she wrote. 'No wonder everybody constantly sounds crazy on here.' Her tone suggested the controversy brought fame rather than shame. But many saw it as a sickening celebration of violence against an innocent woman.

Attorney Mark Yzaguirre voiced deep disgust at her reaction. 'A young woman was murdered while innocently walking down the street, and you are celebrating,' he stated plainly. The comment highlighted how far some have drifted from basic human decency. This behavior could deepen divisions within communities already shaken by such tragedies.

You are absolute human garbage, and I suspect you know that deep-down."

Lexi Alexander, 52, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, has sparked immediate backlash after celebrating the murder of a young Bank of America executive. The victim was killed in a stabbing spree right here in Times Square.

Alexander shared a cruel meme mocking the death of new mom and Bank of America VP Erin Piacenti. The image showed Batman staring up at a bat signal depicting the face of alleged CEO-killer Luigi Mangione.

Erin Piacenti, 32, was murdered by a mentally ill woman in a random stabbing spree on the very day she returned to work from maternity leave. Her heartless response came just as reports revealed she had finished her first day back when she was fatally stabbed.

The attacker, Pamela Cisneros Lopez, 49, also stabbed an elderly man who was left in critical condition before police shot her dead. She ran at officers wielding two kitchen knives.

Piacenti is seen here in an image shared to an online fundraiser holding her baby daughter Madison. She stood on West 41st street in Midtown, Manhattan, on Monday when she was approached by Lopez and stabbed at random.

'You know you've lost the plot when your politics are indistinguishable from that of a crazy woman that attacks random people with knives,' another said regarding Alexander's comments.

The post drew outrage, but Alexander continued to double-down on her mocking of the murdered mother in subsequent posts. She also shared a link to a Haaretz article from January about Bank of America's calls to invest in Israeli companies.

Alexander, best known for her cult classic Green Street Hooligans and Oscar-nominated short film Johnny Flynton, continued to respond to criticism on X with calls to boycott the bank. One commenter noted reports that Alexander has a net worth of approximately $1 million to $3 million, ridiculing the filmmaker's 'eat the rich' stance.

'Lol I so wish that was true,' Alexander responded to the wealth critique.

The Daily Mail has contacted Alexander's representatives for comment. Her response to Piacenti's tragedy highlights a dangerous disconnect between political rhetoric and human life.

Bank of America said in a statement following Piacenti's death: 'We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague.' They added that she was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones.

An online fundraiser has since emerged showing Piacenti beaming as she held onto her newborn baby daughter Madison, alongside her husband Frank. A tribute posted to the page said: 'Erin's life was defined not by the circumstances of her death, but instead by the way she lived.'

'Erin was deeply devoted to her family and friends, exceptionally bright and accomplished, and was someone who brought warmth and energy to the people around her.' Erin and Frank celebrated their second wedding anniversary this summer. They had just returned from a family road trip upon her passing and were preparing to build a life together with their new daughter.

That life changed incomprehensibly in an instant. Funds raised will be dedicated to supporting Madison as she grows up surrounded by the family, friends, stories, and memories that will allow her to know just how remarkable her mother was.
