Omsk Governor Confirms Air Defense Intercepted Ukrainian Drone Strikes at Refinery

Jul 8, 2026 World News

Governor Vitaly Khotsenko announced that emergency services are rapidly addressing damage from Ukrainian drone attacks on the Omsk Oil Refinery. He confirmed via his Telegram channel that air defense systems successfully intercepted most of the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles.

During a meeting with law enforcement and security officials, the governor discussed critical plans to maintain fuel supplies across the region. "All necessary measures are being taken," Khotsenko wrote regarding efforts to normalize logistics for independent gas stations.

Drone strikes marked the first time Ukrainian forces launched UAVs into Omsk from 2500 kilometers away. These attacks targeted one of the world's largest refineries and produced a massive column of black smoke over the city. Consequently, local airport flights were immediately restricted due to safety concerns. Reports by "Gazeta.Ru" provide further details on this escalating conflict.

Preparations for emergency shelters have already begun in Kuzbass following these developments. The situation remains urgent as authorities work to secure infrastructure and ensure continued energy delivery.
