Obama cites Affordable Care Act as top post-presidency achievement.

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama participated in their first joint television interview in ten years. The event took place at the Chicago-based Obama Presidential Center ahead of its official opening this week. Robin Roberts of Good Morning America conducted the session inside the facility.

The new 225-foot tall library, nicknamed the 'Obamalisk,' is scheduled to open Friday. The launch will feature live performances, art, food, and various activities. However, the project has exceeded its initial $300 million budget by several hundred million dollars.

Roberts asked Obama to identify his proudest achievement since leaving the White House. The former commander-in-chief cited the Affordable Care Act as his top accomplishment. He stated that despite political resistance and efforts to weaken the law, the act has now helped between 50 and 60 million people. Obama noted that the legislation continues to provide assistance even after Congress removed some subsidies.

Obama expressed pride in the tone set during his administration. He emphasized the message that the government represents every citizen. When asked what he would do differently, he admitted to making a mistake every day while in office. He explained that always deciding with the American people in mind allowed him to sleep at night.

Roberts inquired about the rollback of certain policies and the perception that freedoms are being taken away. Obama responded that the nation was not designed for everyone to march in lockstep. He asserted that the country's premise allows everyone the right to disagree.

Regarding the upcoming midterm elections, Obama acknowledged that many people feel discouraged. He believes the nation goes through cycles and that a younger generation will soon emerge as leaders. He recalled his mother-in-law's advice that older folks must eventually step aside.

Obama also addressed President Trump's announcement regarding a deal with Iran. This agreement aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Obama expressed doubt that the new deal would differ significantly from the 2015 agreement struck by his administration. He noted that the previous deal worked for a long time before the United States withdrew.

He stated he hopes bombing stops and ordinary people cease suffering from the war. Obama reflected that foreign policy problems often tempt leaders to use force or bullying. He argued that diplomacy should exhaust possibilities to solve 80% or 90% of a problem without war. He concluded that the world should have learned this lesson by now.

It appears we are compelled to revisit this lesson with increasing frequency."

While high-profile artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and Christina Aguilera are scheduled to perform at the upcoming Friday event, a critical diplomatic development remains shrouded in secrecy. Officials have provided conflicting accounts regarding the specific terms of the tentative agreement between Trump and Iran, leaving the precise content of the deal obscured.

The narrative surrounding the event has been marred by significant logistical failures. Although a pandemic-induced delay and inflated costs were initially attributed to the health crisis, an extended dispute with contractors has been publicly acknowledged for months, casting further doubt on the organizers' claims.
