Netflix hires Elle Duncan to rival ESPN while baseball records fall

Sep 8, 2026 •Sports

Netflix is sprinting hard to take over the sports broadcasting game. It looks like they are trying to become the new ESPN. Dan from Don't @ Me breaks down this shift and what it means for regular fans watching their favorite games. The streaming giant just dropped a big bombshell by hiring former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan as their first full-time on-air sports host. She will lead live events and special coverage. Now they are going even further with a multi-year deal to bring Ryan Clark's The Pivot Podcast directly to their platform. Dan warns that leaning into a victimhood mentality could push core subscribers away faster than ever before.

In baseball news, Thomas Pannone threw a nine-inning perfect game Monday night. The 32-year-old southpaw led the Triple-A Nashville Sounds to a 3-0 victory over the Durham Bulls. He retired all 27 batters he faced on just 94 pitches. Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski also set an MLB record for pitches over 100 mph in his dominant start. Pannone racked up nine shutout innings with zero hits, zero walks, and eight strikeouts.

This marks the first nine-inning, single-pitcher perfect game across Minor League Baseball since 2017. It is also just the fifth solo perfect game in the 142-year history of the International League, dating back to 1884.

Trevor Bauer threw a no-hitter for Long Island Ducks in his second US start since 2021. Pannone pitched with total command, but perfection didn't come without late drama. Falling into a tight 3-0 hole against the 27th and final batter in the bottom of the ninth, he faced the immediate risk of a game-ruining walk. Instead, he fired consecutive strikes to battle all the way back, retiring the hitter to lock up the final out.

For this left-hander, flirting with baseball history is nothing new. During a 49-game run with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2018 to 2019, he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his Big League debut against Baltimore. In 2019, he threw an immaculate inning against Tampa Bay, striking out the side on nine consecutive pitches.

He worked through the Cubs, Angels, and Yankees' minor league systems alongside a pitching stint in the Korean Baseball Organization. He earned a spot start for Milwaukee earlier this summer, marking his first MLB appearance in three years, before returning to Triple-A.

Another shot in the bigs doesn't seem far out of Pannone's future. Send us your thoughts at [email protected] or follow along on X @alejandroaveela. Alejandro Avila is a longtime writer at OutKick living in Southern California.
