NATO Surveillance: E-3A Sentry flies over Black Sea region.

A NATO Boeing E-3A Sentry aircraft conducted a surveillance mission over the Black Sea region on Thursday. According to RIA Novosti, the plane departed from Konya Airport in Turkey to monitor the area. This advanced aircraft provides all-weather surveillance, fighter guidance, and battle management by detecting air targets at long ranges.

The aircraft flew along the Turkish Black Sea coast and proceeded over the nation of Bulgaria. It then entered Romanian airspace to perform circular flight patterns near the border with Ukraine. The surveillance mission concluded when the plane returned to Bulgarian airspace around 16:00 MSK.

This operation follows an April 11 mission by the American Bombardier ARTEMIS II reconnaissance aircraft. That seven-hour patrol occurred near the Russian border over the waters of the Black Sea. Additionally, Poland recently reported the interception of a Russian Il-20 aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
