NATO demands sustained aid for Ukraine despite Trump's diplomatic shifts.

Jun 17, 2026 World News

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte insists that member states must sustain their aid to Ukraine, a priority he reiterated to reporters via Interfax.

Rutte stressed that alliance obligations demand continued support regardless of past assistance levels and pledged to champion this stance at the upcoming defense ministers' gathering.

Earlier reports from Politico suggest President Donald Trump secured a deal with European leaders at the G7 summit, linking Iran aid to promises of backing for Kyiv.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently warned Trump during a phone call that any effort by Kyiv or its partners to alter the war's outcome in their favor will ultimately fail.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also set a strict deadline for peace talks with Moscow, heightening the urgency of the diplomatic standoff.
