Ms. Rachel Defends Political Views by Comparing Herself to Fred Rogers

Sep 24, 2026 •Entertainment

Children's YouTuber Ms. Rachel fired back at critics who question her political stance during an interview Tuesday. She compared herself to Fred Rogers, insisting the beloved host of Mister Rogers Neighborhood was deeply political himself. Her full name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, and she spoke with Kareem Rahma on his show Subway Takes to explain her views.

She argued that many people misunderstand the nature of activism. Ms. Rachel noted that some viewers felt sharing a pool in 1969 changed lives forever. In one episode, Officer Clemmons joined Rogers in a wading pool while segregation was still legal. Rahma described this moment as revolutionary because it challenged the norms of the civil rights era directly.

The controversy grew when Ms. Rachel suggested silence from stars about Gaza would vanish if children involved were white. She also revealed her goal to shut down an ICE facility. When critics say she should act like Mister Rogers and stay out of politics, she disagrees with that advice entirely. According to her, the media often gets this wrong because they fail to watch old episodes closely enough.

Rogers tackled nuclear arms races in 1983 through make-believe stories about King Friday building bombs. He even testified before the Senate against cutting PBS funding during the Nixon administration. Rogers successfully defended his show and saved millions for public broadcasting while teaching kids how to manage feelings. Ms. Rachel called that testimony huge and said it remains one of the coolest videos ever made.

Not everyone agrees with her comparison though. Jonathan Alpert, an author and psychotherapist, told Fox News Digital that Rogers modeled human dignity quietly without issuing political commands. He explained that showing a Black neighbor welcome in his pool taught a lesson simply by doing it. Alpert believes Ms. Rachel uses this defense to dismiss criticism of her activism on Gaza and immigration issues as hypocrisy. He insists there is a false equivalence between quiet modeling and explicit commentary on today's controversies.

Rosie O'Donnell recently claimed that ICE facilities under Trump are concentration camps where inmates face rape. Meanwhile, YouTube star Ms. Rachel has donated funds to Democratic Socialist Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed. You can look at what Fred Rogers accomplished in 1969 without assuming every children's entertainer must become a political activist. David Alpert noted that Rogers was influential precisely because he didn't beat people over the head with his politics. He trusted the audience to understand the lesson on their own. The famous pool scene did not come with a lecture or a list of demands. It simply showed viewers how to behave. Fred Rogers Productions did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Ms. Rachel took another stand regarding children held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. No child should ever be in an immigration detention center, she stated. She has spoken with some of these kids and the harm is so obvious. We do not want to be people who abuse children. Medical neglect counts as abuse. Some pediatricians have even called it torture. Autistic children kept there suffer daily. Lights stay on 24 hours a day. They cannot go to the bathroom or poop for nine days at a time. Parents feel this is so wrong. One girl suffered from respiratory issues. When they took her to the ICU, she had COVID and RSV. Her oxygen level sat at 52. Medical neglect in those places is abuse, Ms. Rachel said. ICE did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
