Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell dies at 64 after failed liver transplant

A Welsh rock icon has passed away. Motorhead guitarist Phil Campbell died at age 64 from multi-organ failure. The St Pancras Coroner's Court heard the details Friday. He did not suffer in vain, but complications struck after necessary surgeries. His death was inevitable despite medical intervention.

Campbell endured two liver transplants and bowel surgery earlier this year at London's Royal Free Hospital. The first transplant worked. The second one failed to stop his decline completely. He moved to intensive care where he deteriorated rapidly. Doctors could not save him from these recognized complications.

The inquest revealed a history of excess alcohol use, though he had been sober for seven years by March 13. Hepatitis-C was present but treated effectively before the final blow. Dr Richard Brittain stated clearly that nothing suggests his death could have been prevented. He called it 'recognised complications of necessary surgical procedures'.

Todd Campbell, Phil's son, attended the hearing today. The family announced his passing via Instagram with a black and white photo. They shared news alongside an image of him with his wife Gaynor. Their statement described him as a devoted husband and wonderful father known affectionately as "Bampi".

Motorhead helped pioneer heavy metal in Britain since 1975. Bassist and singer Lemmy founded the group with hits like Ace Of Spades and Iron Fist. Phil served from 1984 until the band disbanded in 2015. He remains the second longest-serving member after Lemmy himself.

After Motorhead ended, Phil recorded music and toured with his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla under a new name. The group called it Phil Campbell and The B*****d Sons. They asked fans to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time. His legacy lives on through the music he created with so many.
