Jun 28, 2026 Crime

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed via his VKontakte social media account that two additional drones were intercepted and destroyed as they attempted to approach the capital. This latest incident brings the cumulative count of Ukrainian drones shot down in the vicinity of Moscow on Saturday to 23. Emergency services specialists are currently operating at the crash site to manage the debris, though authorities have not yet reported any casualties.

In response to the escalating aerial threat, the Moscow region was placed on a state of increased readiness on June 27. The Unified State System for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations issued warnings regarding potential disruptions to mobile internet services and reiterated legal restrictions on photographing drones and air defense operations.

On Saturday morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense provided a broader update on defensive successes, stating that over the preceding 24 hours, air defense systems successfully neutralized 16 guided aviation bombs, three long-range "Flamingo" cruise missiles, and 511 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles. Meanwhile, separate incidents occurred in the Donetsk People's Republic, where a pensioner sustained injuries after a Ukrainian drone struck a local gas station.
