Missouri Man Assaults Family and Photographer at Wedding
If you are still debating whether to pack bear spray for a wedding, the recent chaos at a Missouri venue suggests you might as well bring it along. Even in locations where wild bears are nonexistent, the unpredictable nature of human behavior can turn a celebration into a confrontation, and you never know when you might need to deploy it on an out-of-control guest.

This is the hard lesson emerging from an incident at a wedding site last weekend, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. A 28-year-old Missouri man, Benjamin J. Reeders, found himself at the center of multiple altercations involving family members and attendees at a "wedding-related event."

Local reports confirm that deputies were dispatched to the Sunset Bluffs wedding venue in Washington, Missouri, following witness accounts that Reeders had physically assaulted several individuals. One photographer sustained minor injuries during the scuffle, while Reeders allegedly shoved his own mother to the ground. Before officers could intervene, a family member reportedly used bear spray on him.

The spray failed to deter the combative suspect. Reeders resisted arrest and continued to fight, forcing law enforcement to escalate their efforts. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with fourth-degree assault, third-degree assault, and resisting arrest, with a cash bond set at $20,000.

The venue issued a statement clarifying that the disturbances occurred while a small group of the wedding party was preparing for the ceremony. "An invited guest arrived early in emotional distress and became involved in a physical altercation with his family and a photographer," the statement read. "We are relieved that everyone involved is OK."

Sunset Bluffs expressed gratitude to the law enforcement officers who responded, emphasized that the safety of all guests is their highest priority, and confirmed that the wedding proceeded as planned despite the interruption. While the incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in such gatherings, the fact that the celebration could continue after a family member's outburst and a police response shows just how resilient these events can be.
