Minneapolis police seize guns, arrest Omar's son's roommate

Aug 27, 2026 •Crime

Police in Minneapolis executed a search warrant Tuesday night at the apartment of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's son, Adnan. Officers walked through the residence and took guns plus ammunition into custody. They also arrested his roommate, 22-year-old Abdulrahman Abdi. Law enforcement sources told Alpha News that this action happened on a Tuesday evening in the city.

Earlier that same day, Minneapolis police issued a statement to the Daily Mail explaining how they first encountered Abdi. The department said officers stopped his vehicle and cited him for driving without proof of insurance and without a license. They released him at the scene but impounded the car. While handling the vehicle, officers found a firearm inside. Later, they tracked Abdi down to an address on Marquette Ave and arrested him there. Police described the arrest as occurring 'without incident.' Records show he was booked into Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge before getting out Wednesday night.

Court documents reviewed by the Daily Mail reveal a pattern of trouble for Abdi. He has ten prior convictions, mostly misdemeanors. Last year, he was caught speeding and driving even after his license had been revoked for an earlier offense. In 2024, he faced a felony conviction after being clocked at 108 miles per hour in St. Paul while behind the wheel of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. That vehicle raced alongside a Dodge Durango during the stop. A probable cause statement noted these details. He pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and served one day inside Dakota County Jail. A sentencing order placed him on supervised probation for two years. Other convictions stretch back to 2022 and include using a cell phone while driving, excessive speeding, and failing to show proof of insurance.

This raid follows revelations from last year when Omar disclosed that her son was pulled over by federal immigration agents who questioned his citizenship. She told WCCO that the stop happened after he made a routine purchase at a Target store. He stayed free only after showing them his US passport ID. 'Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by [ICE] agents, and once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go,' she said during an interview with the station. She also claimed that ICE agents previously walked into a mosque where her son and others were praying before leaving without making arrests. The incident casts a shadow over the community as questions swirl about how federal directives impact families already facing local scrutiny.
