Mike Tyson Predicts Donald Trump Will Win November Midterms

Oct 10, 2026 •Politics

Boxing legend Mike Tyson is throwing his political weight behind President Donald Trump as the November midterms approach. The former heavyweight champion stopped by the White House on Friday to drop a quick prediction when reporters asked about Republican prospects in the upcoming elections. He believes Trump will win out.

"I believe Donald Trump is gonna win it," Tyson said inside the West Wing briefing room before heading off to a rally in Syracuse, New York.

Before leaving, Trump cracked a joke about standing next to one of boxing's most feared fighters. "I won't be fighting him today," Trump told reporters. He added that they have been friends for a long time.

That friendship goes back to the 1980s when Trump hosted boxing events featuring Tyson in Atlantic City. Their bond has also grown into cannabis advocacy work. Tyson's push for marijuana reform is now another link in his decades-long relationship with Trump. In June 2025, Tyson joined Kevin Durant and other athletes urging the White House to pursue federal marijuana changes.

Their requests went beyond just rescheduling. They asked for clemency for nonviolent marijuana offenses and wanted banking restrictions on cannabis businesses changed too. Tyson told Fox News Digital that rescheduling was his top priority. He expressed disappointment with how former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden handled cannabis reform.

"It was a letdown, but you have to respect they were in power. You have to respect that," Tyson said. "We have a different president now, so we're talking to him. So, it seems to be a lot different talking to President Trump than with the other guy. And, like I said before, that's their agenda. This is our agenda right here."

Tyson added he thinks rescheduling marijuana is the top priority in his federal reform goals. He and his supporters also want mass clemency for nonviolent marijuana offenders. Trump took a step toward that goal in December 2025 by signing an executive order directing the attorney general to speed up marijuana's proposed move from Schedule I to Schedule III. The order told officials to finish the rulemaking process but did not finalize the change itself.

Tyson welcomed the order while asking Trump to go further. "Clemency and federal legalization are the next important steps," he wrote on X.
