Sep 27, 2026 •Crime

Chaos erupted Wednesday at a salmon-colored house on Pope Street in Memphis as a man was allegedly dragged into a nightmare from which there is no waking up. Bailey Jobin, 23, and Joseph Polk now stand accused of felony robbery following an incident that left one person naked, beaten, and shot by four suspects.

The victim told police he walked willingly to the home because Jobin promised him money. He said Jobin lured him there while Polk drove him in on September 23. The scene quickly turned violent when a man known only as 'one-legged Jay' arrived with two other men. They demanded cash the victim claimed he used to buy a vehicle, which they did not want paid back immediately.

The group forced the man to strip completely naked before ordering him into the backyard. He reportedly screamed at them, saying, "You're going to have to kill me here." That plea went unheeded as Polk allegedly drew a handgun and fired directly into the victim's right thigh. The other two suspects then began punching him in the face, knocking out several of his teeth in a brutal display of violence.

After surviving the assault, the victim rushed to Baptist East Hospital. Investigators met him there and used his identification to track down the four attackers. Police records cited by Action News 5 confirm that Polk was identified as the shooter who fired the shot that wounded the leg.

Jobin and Polk face serious felony charges for this horrific crime in Memphis. The investigation took a sharp turn when officers spotted Polk driving a black 2013 BMW that matched a report of a stolen vehicle. They attempted to pull him over, but he fled the scene instead of turning himself in. This escape only added fuel to the fire as authorities work to bring justice for the victim who was left shattered by this random act of savagery.

Two suspects faced serious accusations after a chaotic night involving stolen vehicles and violence. Police identified one man standing outside the parked stolen car before placing him under arrest. He was taken in for questioning but allegedly admitted to being heavily under the influence of multiple intoxicants. Authorities deemed him incompetent to render a statement, according to the outlet covering the story.

Polk now faces charges of especially aggravated robbery and employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony. Being a felon in possession of a firearm adds weight to his legal troubles. He is also charged with theft of property valued between $2,500 and $10,000 involving a motor vehicle. Additional counts include evading arrest and driving without a valid driver's license. Jobin has been charged with especially aggravated robbery as well.

Both suspects were expected to appear in court on Friday for their initial hearings. The other alleged suspects remain at large. One of them is known by the nickname 'one-legged Jay,' and he has not been arrested yet. This situation leaves many community members feeling unsafe and angry about the lack of immediate justice.

The events escalated quickly when Polk was accused of assaulting an officer while fleeing in a stolen vehicle. He crashed into multiple cars, leaving two people hospitalized for their injuries. The victim said he told the men: 'You're going to have to kill me here,' before Polk allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot him in the right thigh. Police records confirm these grim details of the incident.

Jobin was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado when trouble started during a routine traffic stop. He reversed into the passenger door of a police car, trapping an officer inside. An officer sat in the passenger seat and tried to escape but was pinned between the door and frame. Officials said Polk fled immediately after this collision. He sped through a red light before losing control and smashing into more vehicles on the street.

He allegedly tried to run off but was quickly taken down by police officers who waited for him. Jeremy Taylor, a witness at the scene of the crash, described seeing the accident unfold in real time. 'I was going down the street and [saw] the car chasing the truck,' Taylor said. He picked his daughter up from school before returning to see the wreckage. 'He had wrecked out and hit somebody else car. We [saw] him flying.' Taylor estimated Polk was doing 80 or maybe 100 miles past them. I had to pull over and get out of the way for safety.

Polk faced charges of aggravated assault on a first responder, evading arrest, theft of property, speeding, disregarding a red light, reckless driving and driving without a license. At the time of his arrest, he had warrants for evading, burglary and property theft, according to court documents released to the press. The speed at which these crimes occurred shows how dangerous such behavior can be for everyone.
