Manhunt Intensifies After Armed Suspect Crashes Into Police Car

California deputies are scouring for a suspect they label armed and dangerous following an alleged murder and multiple shots fired at others. Authorities say Derek Spencer, 44, faces several felony charges including pointing a gun at residents in Placer County back on Sunday. The initial warrant came after reports that he aimed a firearm at people earlier that day.

Deputies tracked him down near Iowa Hill during the early hours of the search. Instead of surrendering, Spencer crashed into a patrol vehicle and bolted, igniting a full-scale manhunt. He took shots at officers and helicopters while fleeing. Fortunately, no law enforcement personnel suffered injuries during this chaotic pursuit. Police are urging everyone in the Iowa Hill area to lock their doors and stay inside for safety.

The sheriff's office noted that finding him has proven difficult because the region is vast, filled with thick forests and steep, rugged ground. Despite these obstacles, tactical teams cleared a residence where Spencer had been hiding earlier on Sunday. Inside that home, they found an adult female who had been shot to death. Investigators believe he killed her before running off into the woods surrounding the property.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are lending support to the sheriff's office in this effort. A statement from officials confirmed that teams will keep searching through the night without slowing their pace to locate this highly dangerous individual. The description of Spencer lists him as a bald man with a goatee.
