Mamdani Rejects Piker's Inflammatory Views, Warns Against Political Echo Chambers

Nov 5, 2026 •Politics

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew a hard line between himself and Hasan Piker during an exclusive sit-down with Fox News. Speaking to Shannon Bream, the mayor explicitly rejected the inflammatory comments Piker has made in the past. He addressed remarks where Piker suggested Hamas is "far more moderate" than Israel, dismissed the brutal rule of the terror group in Gaza, and claimed the United States deserved the 9/11 attacks. Mamdani did not mince words about his own stance.

"I would say those are all things that I disagree with, and I've made very clear about my own opinions," he stated. The mayor argued that holding firm to one's views does not require isolating oneself from dissenting voices. He warned against the danger of echo chambers. "If you just surround yourself with people who echo everything that you say and think, you're going to just end up at home looking at a mirror," Mamdani explained.

Piker’s rhetoric has ignited intense backlash. His claims that the Middle East would be more stable if Iran possessed a nuclear weapon have drawn sharp criticism. During an election livestream on Tuesday, the streamer escalated his tone. He fantasized about jail time for President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. He proudly declared that "woke is back." Republicans seized on these moments to paint Democratic socialists as extremists during the midterm campaign.

Mamdani’s association with Piker raises legitimate questions about shared political DNA. The mayor has appeared alongside the controversial streamer despite the heat surrounding Piker’s statements. The interview delved into Mamdani’s membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Bream probed whether he supports the organization's more controversial positions. DSA itself has faced accusations of elevating antisemitic and pro-terror rhetoric after hosting Piker.

Beyond ideological sparring, the conversation turned to the gritty reality of governing. Mamdani discussed the gap between his ambitious campaign promises and the day-to-day challenges of city hall. He addressed proposals like a $30 minimum wage and free buses. The full interview airs on "Fox News Sunday." Brian Flood contributed to this report.
