Macklemore Promises $1 Million Palestine Donation and Challenges Robert Kraft

Sep 16, 2026 •Entertainment

Ben Haggerty, known globally as Macklemore, has made good on a promise to donate his entire $1 million share from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour earnings directly to six organizations supporting Palestinians. The announcement came just days after the rapper was removed from the lineup following his outspoken support for Palestine. He took to Instagram on Wednesday to declare that every dollar would go to groups working on the ground, while simultaneously issuing a challenge to Robert Kraft.

Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, confirmed Tuesday that he banned Macklemore from performing. The mogul cited what he called a history of antisemitic rhetoric by the rapper. In response, Macklemore asked Kraft to match his donation. He also noted that before the ban was finalized, Sheeran had contacted Kraft asking him to pledge $2 million in humanitarian aid. Now, with the tour promoter involved, Sheeran plans to reach out to other venue owners to try and raise more funds for the region.

The fallout from this decision is spreading quickly through the music industry. Every supporting act scheduled for Sheeran's upcoming US dates has stepped down in solidarity with Macklemore. Several of these artists are Irish, pointing to their own nation's history under occupation as a reason for withdrawing. The controversy centers on whether advocacy should silence voices or amplify them, especially when lives are at stake.

Kraft stated his decision was not about lessening Palestinian suffering but argued that public support cannot come at the expense of the Jewish community or obscure Hamas's responsibilities. Meanwhile, Macklemore wrote that he wanted to shift focus away from himself and the headlines. He emphasized that the core issue is always about Palestinians' right to freedom, dignity, and safety in their homeland.

He also offered a stark reality check on his own actions. Writing a check is one of the least costly forms of solidarity available to him compared to the work being done by people inside Gaza or those organizing support efforts worldwide. When he asked for attention to be paid beyond the news cycle, he warned that the story will eventually fade if people stop listening. Free Palestine remains his message as the debate continues to grow around venues and stages across the country.
