Lindy Li Claims Harris Auditioned For Biden Endorsement Before He Dropped Out

Sep 16, 2026 •Politics

Lindy Li, once a top fundraiser for Joe Biden before switching her party registration amid growing concerns about his health during the 2024 election, now claims Kamala Harris was positioning herself to steal donors just days before the President dropped out. She says she stayed silent on criticism of Biden because it felt like a performance.

"It was all charade," Li told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview. "She was auditioning for Biden's endorsement, and the way that she did it was by imposing a fake rule on her staff to not talk about her ascending to the nomination."

Li, who details these months in her new book titled Unburdened, says even people closest to the President knew his campaign would likely end after his disastrous debate. That failure came before he actually announced his withdrawal, yet insiders remained quiet while others prepared for what was next.

As a key fundraiser for both camps and a high-profile figure at the Democratic National Committee, Li worked with both teams to raise money. Now she is speaking publicly about how many Democrats saw the writing on the wall but said nothing. She also describes how figures like Harris moved fast to prepare for their own potential run.

Li believes Harris focused too much on meeting donors who might soon back her own bid. "I was on the call; she would host calls with donors and pretend to support Biden and say there's no daylight between Biden and herself," she says. "All the while she was auditioning for those very donors."

She remembers one specific case where Harris addressed donors about Biden's viability just two days before he stepped aside. It happened on July 19, 2024, not July 20 as Li first thought. On that call, Harris insisted Biden would not drop out and pledged to stick with him until the very end. Those were among the biggest contributors in the party.

Biden officially announced he was no longer running for re-election on July 21. Immediately after, Li says Harris went into overdrive within the Democratic camp to shore up support, implying she still had Biden's blessing. "She was flattering people left and right," Li recalls. "The first 24 hours were a very intensive charm offensive on her part."

That approach let her consolidate backing quickly. She flattered supporters so hard it seemed clear Biden endorsed her. But the truth is Biden did not want to endorse Harris right away; he hesitated for quite some time before finally agreeing.

Despite vice president Kamala Harris's public statements supporting Biden, Li says many donors did not believe her story. "A lot of us have group chats," she explains. "The immediate reaction is what an effing waste of time. What a charade, how fake."

These were some of the wealthiest people in the country speaking out. They knew they were being lied to because Biden was clearly not okay and yet he was told he was fine when he was incapacitated. "It was insulting," Li adds.

Representatives for Harris have not responded to a request for comment from Fox News Digital as this story breaks.
