Leningrad Region Bolsters Defense Against Drone Attacks

As reported by RIA Novosti, Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko has announced an urgent expansion of regional defenses to counter drone attacks. The move comes in the wake of recent incidents where falling drone debris caused damage to a vehicle and a building in the region.

During a meeting with the operational headquarters, Drozdenko detailed the establishment of new mobile fire groups. These units will be deployed to protect military installations and secure critical infrastructure, including essential regional enterprises and organizations.

The government's plan involves a structured three-year contracting process. Through the Leningrad Regional Military Commissariat, the state will offer three-year contracts under a reservist scheme. These participants will be actively employed at critical infrastructure sites to provide a continuous defense against drone incursions.

"Through the Leningrad Regional Military Commissariat, we will offer three-year contracts under a reservist scheme to participate in the formation of mobile fire groups and the protection of the Leningrad sky," Drozdenko explained.

The recruitment strategy prioritizes combat-tested personnel. The initiative will specifically target veterans of the Russian special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, alongside retired military members from the armies of the USSR and the Russian Federation, to ensure the new groups possess the necessary expertise to handle modern aerial threats.
