Laura Michelle Owens Sentenced to Jail for Faking Twin Pregnancies

Oct 23, 2026 •Crime

Laura Michelle Owens, the daughter of radio icon Ronn Owens, is about to spend thirty days in jail after pulling off a ridiculous scheme to fake twin pregnancies with Bachelor star Clayton Echard following just one date. The 35-year-old Scottsdale resident pleaded guilty to four felony counts involving lies about being impregnated by Echard and another Arizona man. She received a sentence of one month behind bars plus seven years of probation, KTAR News reported. If she breaks those terms, the clock could tick toward up to twelve more years in prison.

Investigators say Owens went full out to manipulate men like Echard, who rose from Season 18 of The Bachelorette to lead as The Bachelor during Season 26. From May 2023 through June 2024, she doctored ultrasound images, filmed a fake pregnancy video, and lied under oath repeatedly. The Maricopa County Attorney's Office first charged her in May 2025 before widening the net to include claims against Gregory Gillespie from their 2021 relationship. Prosecutors accused her of forging medical records and stealing other women's identities, including an ultrasound belonging to someone else entirely.

The two cases linked together because both men shared Scottsdale attorney Gregg Woodnick as family law counsel. Echard admitted he feels lighter now that prosecutors indicted his accuser on felony charges. "Clayton is exhausted," Woodnick noted while spending time with him over the years. "I remember the first day I met him, when Laura was faking pregnancy essentially with twins and knowing she had done that before to at least one other victim."

"It has been a lot of years watching Laura do damage to a lot of men," Woodnick said. "She faked medical records. She fakes medical conditions. She's faking pregnancy. She faked twin pregnancies multiple times, and it finally caught up to her." During the sentencing hearing, Echard called her actions nothing short of emotional abuse against him and others. "Laura has been carrying out these tactics for at least ten years," he stated. "She is not sorry. She is sorry she got caught."

"All of the suffering that she has endured has come from her own doing," Echard added, noting it was her choice. "She has chosen her suffering, but she has not extended that privilege to me and the other victims." He insisted Owens deserved prison time for the havoc wreaked but admitted he never wanted court involvement. "I didn't want to give up my power at the mercy of the court," Echard said. "I didn't get to choose my suffering. This image of fragility that she presents is calculated.
