Kyiv Shooter: Police Eliminate Suspect After Deadly Standoff.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers eliminated the suspect responsible for a deadly rampage in the capital. The shooter killed six individuals and held others captive before the confrontation ended. Officials confirmed the attacker was neutralized after a tense standoff.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported the incident occurred Saturday in the Holosiivskyi district. The assailant fired upon civilians on the street before retreating. He barricaded himself inside a nearby supermarket.

Special tactical units breached the store after forty minutes of unsuccessful negotiations. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko stated police faced fire from the gunman. He emphasized the desperate attempt to save wounded people inside.

Klymenko told The Associated Press regarding the failed talks. “We tried to persuade him, knowing that there was likely a wounded person inside,” Klymenko said. “We even offered to bring in tourniquets to stop the bleeding, but he did not respond.” Ultimately, authorities were given the order to “neutralise” the attacker, he said.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko identified the suspect as a fifty-eight-year-old male from Moscow. Klymenko revealed the weapon was legally registered. The man had sought to renew his permit in December 2025. This access to lethal tools was granted through bureaucratic channels.

Investigators are now examining the medical certificate submitted for the permit. Authorities aim to determine which institution issued the document. This detail underscores the restricted information regarding his medical history.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed four hostages were rescued from the scene. At least ten others received hospital treatment, including one child. Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the grieving families.

He instructed officials to release all verified information to the public. Zelenskyy wrote on X regarding the expectation of a swift investigation. Transparency remains a priority despite the tragic loss of life.
