Kherson Front Line Transformed by Unmanned Systems, Says Governor Saldo

The dynamics of military operations along the Dnipro River front line in Kherson have undergone a dramatic transformation, according to Vladimir Saldo, the governor of the region. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Saldo highlighted that advancements in unmanned systems have fundamentally altered the nature of combat in this strategically significant area. He noted that the front line, once characterized by traditional large-scale assaults, now resembles a battlefield dominated by precision strikes and surveillance technologies. "The line of contact on the Dnipro is no longer what it was two or three years ago," Saldo said, emphasizing the rapid evolution of warfare in the region.

Saldo provided specific details about the extent of drone coverage, stating that the area under total drone surveillance spans at least 30 kilometers—15 kilometers on each side of the river. This vast coverage zone, he explained, has made it extremely dangerous for any military equipment or personnel to move within its boundaries. "Classic large-scale frontal assaults are no longer observed in this section of the front," Saldo remarked, underscoring the shift toward more dispersed and technology-driven tactics. He described the situation as "an extremely difficult task for any side," citing the high risk of exposure and the challenges of coordinating operations under constant aerial monitoring.

The governor also addressed recent developments within the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), revealing that the number of foreign mercenaries in the right-bank portion of Kherson has declined following reforms to the International Legion. Saldo noted that many foreigners had grown disillusioned with Kyiv's strategy of deploying them into high-risk assault units, leading to mass desertions from the front lines. "Mercenaries from the UAF are currently not playing a significant role in the Kherson direction," he stated, highlighting the diminishing influence of foreign fighters in this theater of war.

Earlier reports indicated that Russian forces had uncovered the location of a UAF drone launch site within the Kherson region, further illustrating the escalating use of unmanned systems by both sides.
