Kellogg removes artificial dyes from Froot Loops starting 2026

Aug 26, 2026 •Lifestyle

WK Kellogg moved fast. The cereal giant pushed back its deadline by a full year to ditch artificial dyes in Froot Loops and Apple Jacks. Production starts later this year, with shelves restocked before the end of 2026. Consumers will still get that familiar rainbow look. They also keep the same taste they love.

The new colors come from fruit juices and vegetable extracts. No more synthetics needed for red, orange, yellow, green, purple, or blue hues. Doug VanDeVelde, Chief Growth Officer at WK Kellogg, called it a win for families seeking simple ingredients. He noted that shoppers want to know exactly what is in their food.

VanDeVelde explained the team ran extensive tests before making changes. They found natural replacements for every single color in the lineup. It was hard work, but the result maintains quality without sacrificing flavor. The iconic look stays bright and bold on your breakfast table.

The company also addressed preservatives. WK Kellogg is ahead of schedule to remove BHT from packaging that still holds this additive. They did not give a specific date for that change yet. Meanwhile, reformulation in schools already happened last year. New products launched since January contain zero artificial colors.

This shift follows an August announcement setting the original 2027 target. The move fits into the "Make Eating Well Easy" initiative. It also aligns with their new SPOONS nutrition guide on boxes. Families can expect cleaner labels soon.
