Josh Tarling Rides Vuelta a Espana One Week After Brother's Death

Aug 26, 2026 •Sports

Josh Tarling returns to action in Spain just one week after tragedy struck his family. The British rider heads to the Vuelta a Espana starting Saturday, barely a week since his brother Finlay died in a crash during the Tour of Portugal.

Finlay, 19, passed away after a serious accident on August 14. He rode for the NSN Development Team as a road cyclist. Local broadcaster RTP confirmed he hit a vehicle coming from the opposite direction with no connection to the race itself.

Netcompany-Ineos announced Josh's participation in their lineup for the Tour of Spain running from August 22 to September 13. The event will run until September 13. Director Geraint Thomas stated the team fully backs Josh's choice to compete. His mother Dawn also spoke out on Instagram to support her son.

"Finlay was so incredibly proud of his big brother," Dawn said in a post. "He would be watching nose to the TV and shouting as he competed." She emphasized that Fin always loved watching Josh do what he does now.

"So it is right that Josh honours that love and pride by doing what Fin always loved watching him do," she added. The family stands united behind this difficult decision.
