Jeff Bezos Group Set to Acquire One-Third Stake in Liverpool FC

Aug 26, 2026 •Sports

Reports are swirling that Jeff Bezos is part of an investor group looking to buy into Liverpool FC. The team belongs to Fenway Sports Group (FSG), and sources say FSG confirmed the approach from Amit Bhatia's consortium back in July. Sky News now says this deal is nearly done for a roughly one-third stake. An announcement could come as soon as this week.

The group includes Amazon founder Bezos, Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, and Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of Indian steel titan Lakshmi Mittal. Forbes puts Bezos' fortune above $280bn, while Saverin sits at $33bn. Both men are among the richest on the planet.

Fans are not happy with silence. The supporters' group Spirit of Shankly (SoS) has sent a letter asking for clarity and a meeting to discuss what this means for the club. "Putting the interests of LFC and its supporters first is fundamental," a statement from SoS read. They warn that ownership changes at other clubs have led to shifts in how teams run, with decisions fans would never want to see happening here.

This isn't Bezos' first look at sports assets. He has explored buying stakes in the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders before walking away. Now his name is back in the conversation for English football.

Liverpool won the Premier League title last season under manager Arne Slot. The Dutchman was let go after a turbulent campaign, and Andoni Iraola now takes charge. But questions remain about who holds power behind the scenes if this sale goes through.
