Jaxson Dart's Knee Injury Derails Giants Offense Against Rams
The New York Giants arrived in Los Angeles feeling confident, facing a Rams squad that was visibly frustrated after taking a pounding during their trip to Australia. Following a victory over the Dallas Cowboys at home just one week prior, league chatter suggested these Giants might finally pose a serious threat throughout the NFL under this John Harbaugh era. Those lofty expectations received a massive shock on Monday Night Football when quarterback Jaxson Dart was ruled out due to a brutal hit that caused a knee injury. The organization and its fan base are now holding their breath while waiting for MRI results.

Once Dart exited the game, Jameis Winston took over duties behind center. The offense, which had shocked the Cowboys with its grinding ground-and-pound style last week, suddenly struggled to find any footing against a revitalized Rams defense. This unit lacked Myles Garrett but featured the return of future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald at SoFi Stadium. Meanwhile, Matthew Stafford looked more like the reigning MVP than in Week 1. With plenty of time inside the pocket, he dissected the Giants' defense as the Rams cruised to a 28-6 victory. This win marked their first of the new season.
Now, everything hangs in the balance while the Giants wait for Dart's MRI results, which should arrive on Tuesday. Dart was clutching his knee after getting sandwiched between two Rams defenders who beat the Giants' tackles off the edge. Video replay showed his leg shifting awkwardly while he was airborne. Despite being able to walk off on his own power, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported during the game that Dart tried to persuade the coaching staff to put him back in. They refused to let him return.

Seeing Dart fight to get back into action is a good sign that his injury might not be as severe as initially feared. OutKick's Armando Salguero suggested an MCL sprain could be what Dart and the Giants are dealing with. However, every party involved hopes the 2026 season does not become awash in injuries for this second-year signal caller out of Ole Miss, especially given a Week 2 filled with key quarterback setbacks. If Dart misses time, this new Giants regime will face a serious test to keep their high expectations from sinking because there is certainly work to be done on both sides of the ball.

On offense, it was already a difficult task for any backup quarterback to step in on short notice. The run game that functioned so well last week was non-existent this time around. It certainly helped that Donald was back in a Rams uniform, but the rest of their defenders were solid at the line of scrimmage as well. They limited New York to just 44 rushing yards compared to 165 in Week 1. It also did not help the Giants that star receiver Malik Nabers gave the team a scare when he left after getting a target from Winston and gripping his right shoulder. He eventually returned, but occurring just a few snaps after Dart's injury caused Giants fans to fear the worst once again.

Then on defense, Stafford did not have Puka Nacua, who sat out due to injury, but he did have future Hall of Fame receiver Davante Adams. Since the Giants found no pressure on most of Stafford's dropbacks, he kept finding Adams for chunk plays. He threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Adams for his first score of the game. A 64-yard catch-and-run set up a touchdown pass to running back Kyren Williams. Finally, there was a signature fade route where Giants rookie cornerback Colton Hood had no chance after Adams' release off the line.
Adams wrapped up the contest with eight receptions totaling 195 yards and two touchdowns. OUTKICK IS NOW AVAILABLE ON THE FOX NEWS APP: CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD. The Giants' defensive line, billed as a terrifying force for this season, failed to make an impression against the Rams' protection scheme. Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and others could not penetrate the offensive line enough to disrupt their 38-year-old quarterback. The injury bug struck near the final whistle when Burns rolled his ankle. A cart waited outside to transport him to the locker room, yet he refused the ride and chose to walk on his own.

The Rams found themselves back on track thanks to a battle fought on two different sidelines. Meanwhile, the Giants are hoping for the best regarding their quarterback while facing critical home games ahead. They must return to the drawing board immediately.
