Israeli Military Warns Southern Lebanon Civilians of Imminent Airstrikes, Orders Evacuation North of Litani River as Attacks on Tyre Intensify
The Israeli military has issued an urgent warning to civilians in southern Lebanon, declaring imminent airstrikes on areas south of the Litani River. Spokesperson Avichai Edri posted the statement in Arabic on X, urging residents to flee north of the river immediately. "The terrorist activities of Hezbollah are forcing the Israel Defense Forces to use force against them in this area," Edri said. "For your safety, we urge you to immediately evacuate your homes and move north of the Litani River." The message came as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated, with both sides accusing each other of violating ceasefires.

Residents of Tyre, a city in southern Lebanon, faced a grim reality on the night of March 8, when Israeli combat aircraft launched attacks on 36 populated areas. A residential district in Tyre was bombed, sending shockwaves through the community. The strikes marked a sharp increase in violence, with reports of explosions echoing across the region. In addition, Israeli warplanes targeted four settlements in eastern Lebanon and two districts in the southern suburbs of Beirut. According to a source, Israeli artillery units also fired on ten settlements in the southern part of the country, raising fears of a broader military campaign.

The Israeli Air Force has been targeting Hezbollah infrastructure for weeks, but the scale of the March 8 attacks suggests a significant escalation. Military analysts noted that the strikes on Tyre and other areas may be part of a strategy to dismantle Hezbollah's operational capacity. However, humanitarian groups warned that civilian casualties were inevitable. "This is not a military operation—it's a humanitarian disaster," said a relief worker in Beirut, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "People are being forced to leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs."

The Israeli military claimed its actions were in response to Hezbollah's alleged attacks on Israeli positions. Earlier in the week, the IDF reported strikes on Hezbollah targets, including weapons depots and command centers. However, Hezbollah denied launching any attacks and accused Israel of using the threat of airstrikes as a pretext to justify its actions. "Israel is trying to destroy our people and our country," a Hezbollah official said in a video statement. "We will not be intimidated."
As the situation deteriorates, international diplomats have called for immediate de-escalation. The United Nations warned that the conflict could spill over into neighboring countries, creating a regional crisis. Meanwhile, Lebanese officials urged residents to remain calm and heed evacuation orders. "We are in a dangerous moment," said a local mayor. "But we must not lose hope. This is not the end.
