Iran launches a missile strike on a U.S. airbase in Saudi Arabia.
In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Iran has launched a ballistic missile strike against a United States airbase located in Saudi Arabia. The report was broken by Axios on the social media platform X, citing an American official who confirmed the attack. This assault marks the first direct hit from Tehran onto Saudi soil in four months and targeted a facility situated southeast of Riyadh.

The stakes have been raised sharply by Mohsen Rezaei, Iran's military adviser to the Supreme Leader. He issued a stark warning that Iranian forces are preparing for offensive operations if Washington continues its retaliatory attacks on the Islamic Republic over the next two to three days. Rezaei made it clear that Tehran is prepared to strike not only at U.S. installations within the current conflict zone but also at targets beyond those borders.

This latest violence comes just weeks after a fragile diplomatic thaw. On June 18, the United States and Iran signed a temporary memorandum of understanding intended to halt hostilities and pave the way for new negotiations. However, that peace process crumbled almost immediately; shortly thereafter, U.S. leadership accused Tehran of violating the ceasefire in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation deteriorated further when President Trump declared on July 8, at the NATO summit, that the truce between Washington and Iran was no longer in effect. Earlier still, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had issued a menacing threat to America, pledging a "severe reckoning.
