However, the mood shifted dramatically on April 8. Endres said Jenae called to report an argument with her fiancé, noting that they had moved to separate rooms. The following day, the family received a disturbing update from McCann. "He told me that Ashly did something to herself and she was being taken to the hospital, and he told me she was stable," Endres recounted. When pressed on what had happened, McCann reportedly replied that it had been 11 hours since the incident. Several hours later, the luxury villa confirmed Jenae's death.
