Intoxicated Couple Breaks Into Cabin and Beats Family Including Child

Aug 26, 2026 •Crime

A Florida sheriff says a vacation turned into a nightmare for a family when an intoxicated couple broke into their cabin and started fighting. The suspects, Gannon Jacox and his girlfriend Brooklyn Hicks, were arrested at Port Canaveral after the incident unfolded on Sunday, according to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

The trouble began when the family staying next door asked the pair to quiet down during an argument. Hicks reportedly took offense to the request. She allegedly marched toward the victims' room while Jacox followed close behind, recording the scene on his phone and encouraging her to beat them up. They pushed their way inside a room that contained a 9-year-old child.

A violent fight broke out immediately. Jacox ended up striking all three people in the room, including the young boy. Hicks swung wildly, hoping at least one of her blows would land. The boyfriend suffered a severe eye injury visible even in his smiling mugshot, while Hicks kept a typical blank expression. Fortunately, none of the victims sustained serious injuries.

Jacox and Hicks were booked into Brevard County Jail on Saturday based on public records. Hicks faces felony burglary with battery and misdemeanor battery charges, held on a $6,000 bond. Jacox is being held on a $31,000 bond after facing two burglary with assault charges, a child abuse charge without great bodily harm, and misdemeanor battery.

Sheriff Ivey shared a clear message about the consequences of their actions. He joked that the couple would enjoy their extended stay in an unplanned destination featuring close-quarter sleeping arrangements, communal showers, no drink packages, and no excursions. He added they might find sandals there too, but not the kind found at Sandals Resorts, just the ones you wear in a shower.

Ivey emphasized that if people cannot hold their liquor, they should definitely avoid causing scenes in public or injuring random citizens, including children. If his warning was not clear enough, he suggested folks either stay out of Brevard County or simply avoid breaking the law there. The sheriff is well known for using social media to call out suspects and warn them of consequences.

According to Cruise Hive, four ships were in Port Canaveral on Saturday: Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas, Disney Cruise Line's Disney Treasure, Mardi Gras, and Carnival Freedom. However, officials have not confirmed which specific vessel hosted this incident. The Daily Mail has reached out to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office for further comment.
