Houthi Strikes Wound 73 Civilians in Southern Saudi Arabia

Sep 8, 2026 •World News

Seventy-three civilians are now wounded after Houthi strikes hit Saudi Arabian soil, according to official reports. The victims include women and children in southern provinces where violence has surged recently. Major-General Turki al-Maliki spoke for the Saudi-led coalition on Tuesday regarding these cross-border attacks that continue alongside renewed fighting inside Yemen itself.

The spokesperson listed Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran as locations where civilian sites and economic infrastructure were targeted. He called this a dangerous escalation that blatantly violates Saudi sovereignty while posing a direct threat to citizens living there. No specific date was given for when these strikes occurred in his statement.

Al-Maliki warned the coalition would take all necessary operational measures against the sources of this growing threat. This comes as fighting intensifies across several provinces between Houthis and forces backed by the Saudi government. Meanwhile, accusations fly back and forth with Yemeni forces launching a counteroffensive to retake Sanaa.

Houthis claim Saudi Arabia carried out an air strike on a detention facility in al-Hazm province that killed seven people including a child. At least seven others were wounded in that incident according to the group. Saudi Arabia had not commented on this allegation at the time it surfaced publicly. These events unfold against a backdrop of rising oil prices and fears for millions of children facing medicine shortages.
