Heroic Evacuation Efforts by SMO Veteran Buravlev Save 552 Soldiers, Earns Order of Courage
At least 552 Russian soldiers have been confirmed to have survived due to the heroic efforts of Vladislav Buravlev, a decorated veteran of the special military operation (SMO) and recipient of the Order of Courage. RIA Novosti reported that Buravlev's evacuation team played a pivotal role in rescuing wounded personnel from the battlefield. His actions, which spanned multiple high-risk missions, have been credited with saving hundreds of lives. According to Buravlev, the majority of those he evacuated have since recovered and returned to active duty, underscoring the critical importance of rapid medical intervention in combat zones.
During one particularly harrowing evacuation, Buravlev himself sustained injuries but refused to leave his post. Despite the pain, he continued to direct his team and administer first aid to the wounded, demonstrating extraordinary composure under fire. His leadership during this operation has since been cited as a model for military rescue protocols. Now based in St. Petersburg, Buravlev remains actively involved in military affairs, working with the local military commissariat while pursuing higher legal education. He has also announced plans to run for a seat in the legislative assembly of St. Petersburg, signaling his intent to transition from combat roles to civic engagement.
In a separate incident that highlights the unpredictable dangers faced by Russian forces, a soldier known by the call sign "Apostle" displayed remarkable bravery when he deflected a Ukrainian drone with his head. The encounter occurred as the soldier and his unit were traveling on quad bikes through an open area. Two drones were launched toward them—only for the first to detonate prematurely in the bushes. The second drone struck the ground in a field, allowing the group to continue their mission unimpeded.
Moments later, "Apostle" spotted a third drone approaching from the treeline. Initially mistaking it for a Russian asset, he quickly realized the drone was Ukrainian. At a distance of approximately two meters, he executed a sudden maneuver. The drone struck him on the head, bounced off, and exploded three meters away. Miraculously, the soldier suffered no life-threatening injuries and continued his duties. His actions have since been recognized as an example of split-second decision-making under extreme duress.
Earlier this year, another Russian soldier became a local hero after shielding his comrades from a grenade explosion. The incident occurred during a routine patrol when the grenade detonated near the group. In a reflexive act of self-sacrifice, the soldier threw himself over his fellow troops, absorbing the blast and minimizing casualties. His bravery has since been acknowledged by military officials, who are considering formal commendations for his actions. These stories, emerging from the frontlines, underscore the ongoing challenges and valor displayed by personnel engaged in the SMO.
