Harris Mocked After Viral Clip Shows Simple AI Definition
Former Vice President Kamala Harris faces fresh mockery after a viral clip from 2023 resurfaced, showing her describing artificial intelligence as just two letters that stand for machine learning. The video gained traction following her recent call to slow the development of the technology. Harris served as the Biden administration's AI czar before stepping down and subsequently posted a lengthy statement on Monday addressing the issue directly.
In that post, she urged President Donald Trump to act and protect American interests by securing a treaty with nations like China. Her proposal included stopping dangerous applications of AI, limiting how fast it develops, and adopting global standards for testing systems. Social media users quickly pointed out her earlier comments while mocking the simplicity of her explanation.

She explained that machines learn from information fed into them, which then determines the decisions and opinions produced by the system. Harris argued that society must consider what data enters a decision-making process and whether the resulting output reflects the needs and life experiences of all people. This simplified view sparked immediate backlash among commentators who felt her language did not match her usual style or expertise level.
Conservative influencer Western Lensman reposted the old footage with the caption noting this was Harris speaking without help from consultants crafting a written statement. National security expert Kyle Bass responded sharply on social media, claiming there was no chance she wrote such content himself. He questioned whether anyone had ever heard her use words like frontier or advancing alongside intelligence in one sentence before now.

Columnist S.L. Kanthan called for voluntary slowdowns in AI progress to be one of the dumbest ideas coming from any politician today. He even shared another clip where Harris explained cloud storage by saying files moved upstairs into a space existing above us rather than staying locked in a basement cabinet. Author Sarah Adams noted that experts are not looking for her personal thoughts on intelligence matters specifically at this time.
Some users suggested the entire post itself might have been generated by artificial intelligence rather than written by hand. Harris stated clearly that AI is advancing at an alarming speed and highlighted industry leaders calling for responsible pacing of frontier development. She argued slowing things down ensures technology serves the public interest while still allowing life-saving benefits in fields like medicine to emerge.

Setting up sensible guardrails prevents systems from escaping human control or endangering our collective future according to her analysis. Harris also asked Congress to work at an urgent pace on oversight legislation even as America continues leading global development efforts in this field. Her stance aligns with other prominent Democrats recently calling for increased regulation of artificial intelligence technologies across the country.

Former President Barack Obama spoke with Democrats at a private fundraiser in New York City on Thursday, urging them to make artificial intelligence a top priority before the midterms and the 2028 presidential election. He warned that without better oversight, the technology could turn dangerous as voters grow more worried about jobs, privacy, and data centers.
"This is something that is moving very fast in private hands, and if we don't get on top of it, I think can be dangerous," Obama said. "If we do get on top of it, I do think it's beneficial. I genuinely think it's going to accelerate, for example, drug development in ways that can help us cure diseases. I do think that this can help us figure out pathways for a clean energy future."

Meanwhile, Trump rejected recent calls for rules and limits on AI on Monday. He insisted the technology needs a "STRONG AND SMART" president instead of more restrictions.
"The only control or 'guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He claimed there is a SICK conspiracy against AI and data centers, noting that China seems to be the only one happy about it. "WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so," he added.
