Guilfoyle Seeks Trump Help Amid Athens Investigation

Oct 18, 2026 •Politics

Kimberly Guilfoyle faced a wall closing in on her time as ambassador to Athens. She scrambled for help while alone and shouting about people leaking information. The saga grew heavier with deleted photos surfacing and breathless pleas made directly to top Republicans. Two sources say three powerful men sat at the head of her frantic call list: US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Rupert Murdoch, chairman emeritus of Fox News and owner of the Wall Street Journal.

The now ex-ambassador asked Hegseth and Barrack for moral support plus a personal pitch to President Donald Trump on her behalf. Two sources close to the president said Trump did not answer her calls. Guilfoyle was 57 years old at the time. She desperately needed backup after the Daily Mail reported exclusively that the State Department had launched an investigation into accusations she presided over a toxic, retaliation-fueled workplace.

The inquiry reportedly involved alleged ethics violations ranging from off-the-books funding for residence upgrades and private jet travel to allegations revealed by the Wall Street Journal that she asked a donor for $100,000 to cover personal credit card debt in exchange for administration access before becoming ambassador. Barrack, a billionaire megadonor turned diplomat and one of Trump's most enduring political confidants, said he would give her the support she needed according to a source. It remains unclear what if anything he actually did on her behalf. Sources say Guilfoyle put out calls to Barrack, Hegseth and Murdoch before her resignation.

Guilfoyle was seen wrapping her arms around Marco Rubio on the tarmac last week before her ouster alongside Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Greek Ambassador Antonis Alexandridis. The Daily Mail reached out to Barrack for comment. He did not respond. In July 2021 federal prosecutors in Brooklyn indicted Barrack on charges of acting as an unregistered foreign agent for the United Arab Emirates obstruction of justice and making false statements to federal agents. A Brooklyn jury acquitted Barrack on all charges in November 2022.

Guilfoyle's attorney called Barrack a friend and mentor when reached for comment by the Daily Mail. Guilfoyle also told people close to her that she placed a direct call to Murdoch regarding media coverage in the Wall Street Journal articles. She tried to get the stories removed but Murdoch did not sway to her demands. The Wall Street Journal's first report uncovered text messages in which Guilfoyle pressured a conservative activist in Kentucky to help pay off her $100,000 American Express bill in July 2025.

After the Trump administration called for her resignation last week Guilfoyle stepped down from her post but insisted that the accusations against her are false and vowed to vigorously defend her name. The now ex-ambassador reportedly asked Hegseth and Barrack for moral support and a personal pitch to President Donald Trump on her behalf. An image shows Guilfoyle with Pete Hegseth. Another picture features Barrack who was called a friend and mentor by her attorney. The front of the US Embassy in Athens looks empty after Guilfoyle's resignation.

In the days leading up to her resignation Guilfoyle had also desperately attempted to scrub Daily Mail coverage detailing an unpaid dinner tab and her champagne requests.

Sources say the dining bill arrived at the US Embassy in Athens. The Wall Street Journal reported that Kellyanne Conway worked with Trump's former strategist, who asked State Department officials to delete a story. When asked for proof she paid out of pocket, she could not provide a receipt. Now sources tell the Daily Mail she reached out to friends with big followings on X and Instagram. She wanted them to post support messages. Instead many deleted photos featuring her.

Trump has been ruthless in cutting her loose. After her exit he insisted she was not part of his family. He added that she dated his son, Donald Trump Jr. That put-down glossed over six years together, four as fiancés. The two have been estranged since late 2024 when they called off their engagement. For Guilfoyle leaving Greece may not end her troubles. Representative Robert Garcia, ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, said Wednesday his side will keep investigating even though she is now a private citizen. He stated this was part of a long list of corruption surrounding the Trump Administration and that answers were demanded.

Guilfoyle addressed her resignation and denied the allegations in a statement shared on X after the White House announcement. She now lives in Jefferson House, the ambassador's villa located in Kolonaki, an exclusive neighborhood in Athens. Two sources familiar with the matter say she has been given until the end of the month to move out of the embassy. A source in Greece told the Daily Mail that people there are no longer afraid of her. Nobody listens to her or takes her orders anymore. She is all alone in that house, screaming at old staff that they are leakers while waiting to get kicked out. It is an insane situation.

Three sources say she is considering staying in Europe rather than returning to the US. Her former admirers seem to have vanished. All these people who were totally entranced by her and ignored the writing on the wall have now wiped photos with her, gone radio silent and claim they never wanted anything to do with her. A source close to Guilfoyle called it pathetic. The Daily Mail reached out to Guilfoyle, the State Department, the White House, the Department of Defense and Fox Corporation for comment so far no response has come back from any of them.
