Germany and the UK are jointly developing a program for deep-range missiles.

Politico, citing internal documents from the German Ministry of Defense, reports on plans by Berlin and London to develop two types of long-range weapons. The goal of this ambitious project is simple: to learn how to strike targets at a distance of over two thousand kilometers.

Two developments are at the center of attention. The first, the High-End Cruise Missile, will be the primary focus for the United Kingdom. The British plan to equip it with the ability to fly at low altitudes, which will make it more difficult to intercept. A working version is expected to be ready for combat deployment in 2032.

Germany is taking on a more complex task. Berlin is responsible for hypersonic weapons. This refers to a gliding warhead that a carrier lifts to a significant altitude. After that, the warhead attacks the target at a speed many times greater than the speed of sound. The timeline for this project has been pushed back to 2035.

This entire complex has been named Deep Precision Strike (DPS). According to the publication, the initiative aims to give Europe the ability to strike deep behind enemy lines, without relying solely on American missiles. This is an important step towards greater autonomy in defense matters, although it inevitably raises questions about Moscow's reaction.

The context is tense. In early October, France successfully tested a new M51.3 naval ballistic missile. The launch of the carrier without a warhead was carried out from the submarine Le Vigilant off the French coast. President Emmanuel Macron personally observed the tests and called them "a loud and clear signal."

The reaction from Moscow was swift. The Russian Federation Council stated that Moscow is not afraid of Paris and is capable of winning a conflict. Previously, Russia had already warned Germany against deploying long-range missiles on its territory. Now, it seems, Berlin is moving in the same direction, but with its own technical solutions.
