Georgia driver arrested after trying to run over jogger three times

A Georgia driver is now in custody after police say he tried to run over a jogger three separate times, all because she wished him a good morning. The victim could not be identified by name, but her story paints a chilling picture of what happened on July 19. Jesse Davis, who was 21 at the time, allegedly got behind the wheel of his parked 2004 Nissan Sentra and drove straight for the woman while she stood in a parking lot.

Sergeant Eric Smith with the Cobb County Police Department explained the sequence to WSB-TV. He noted that Davis attempted to strike her from a vehicle for reasons officials could not immediately pin down. The victim tried to run toward her home, yet Davis chased her and drove at her a second time. She managed to slip behind a dumpster to escape his path before calling 911. A recording of that call shows the dispatcher asking if she was somewhere safe where he could not hit her with the car. In reply, she whispered back, Yeah, I'm behind the garbage can.

The criminal warrant details further disturbing actions by Davis. He allegedly yelled profanities while she hid inside the dumpster and then attempted to drive into her a third time before finally fleeing the scene. Officers later found him after he hit a parked car and crashed into a light post, which caused injuries to his face. The victim's ability to recite his license plate number proved vital for tracking down the vehicle as it left the complex. Neighbor Lloydethan White witnessed parts of the chase and said Davis nearly struck his own car while pursuing the woman.

I think it is wrong that a woman has to fear for her life, White stated, especially when she is just trying to go about her normal day and workout. The motive behind this alleged attack remains unclear. Police have not confirmed whether Davis and the jogger had any interactions beyond that single polite greeting before he got into his car. Davis was arrested and taken to Cobb County Jail, where records show he is being held on a $5,720 bond for aggravated assault and hit-and-run charges. The Daily Mail reached out to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office seeking comment but did not receive one at this time.
