French Suspect Admits Targeting Muslim and African Victims in Paris-Suburb Attack
Kevin T, 39, has finally dropped his denial. French prosecutors say the man charged with murder and attempted murder admitted he specifically targeted people who looked Muslim, African, or North African. It is a shocking confession that lands just days after the bloodshed in Trappes and La Verriere, west of Paris.
The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday that Kevin T has been formally charged as part of a "terrorist" enterprise. Prosecutor Olivier Christen revealed that the suspect chose the location for one specific reason. He called it "a hotbed for Islamists." Before this shift in his story, Kevin had disputed any racist motive behind the violence.
Last Friday, the scene was chaotic. A man fired from his car as he drove through the towns. One person died. Seven others were injured. Among the victims was a child. Most of those hit had foreign heritage. The suspect was arrested later that same day.
Pengo Bossio Wangi, a 26-year-old French citizen with Congolese heritage, did not survive. He is the only fatality in the attack.
When officials searched Kevin’s home, they found disturbing evidence. A magazine, two pairs of brass knuckles, a steel bayonet, and a silencer were all present. The shelves held a copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf. Next to it sat a Quran and a Bible. Stickers celebrating Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally party were also discovered.
Christen noted that Kevin displayed a "very high level of preparation" before the shooting. Back in September, the suspect acquired components meant to boost the tactical effectiveness of a Sten submachine gun. He also bought a police armband and handcuffs.
In his statement, Kevin said he felt "no regret." But he claimed he did not intend to "kill children." He added that he "might have been mistaken due to their size."
Christen clarified one final point. The suspect told investigators he is neither a member of nor a sympathizer with any political party.
