Former Google DeepMind Executive Charged With Sexual Assault in Minnesota
San Francisco-based Antony Sun Liwanag, a former executive at Google DeepMind, now faces two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charges stem from an incident on July 2, 2026, in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Court documents obtained by FOX 9 paint a disturbing picture of what happened when Liwanag and a female colleague traveled to the Twin Cities for a wedding.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, told police she was in town for a co-worker's nuptials. Before the ceremony, she joined a pre-wedding gathering at a local bar. Liwanag, 33, was also there. He invited her to another establishment, and she agreed. They moved to a table near the back of the new venue while Liwanag fetched drinks.
Things went wrong quickly. The woman reported to authorities that after consuming several beverages, she began "feeling out of it and very intoxicated." She believes her drinks were spiked. According to the charges, Liwanag then initiated unwanted physical contact. He kissed her without consent. She tried to push him away and explicitly told him no. But the assault escalated.

Liwanag pinned her against a wall. He reached under her dress and touched her with his fingers. The victim was trapped between him and the hard surface. After this confrontation, Liwanag ordered an Uber to take them to her hotel in the Minneapolis suburb. During that brief window, the woman attempted to resist the ride. She struggled to control her own body and eventually collapsed outside the bar.
Hotel surveillance footage captured the aftermath. The video shows the woman appearing extremely impaired, unable to walk on her own. Liwanag was seen picking her up and carrying her toward her room. At one point, he dragged her to the elevator as she went limp. Inside the hotel room, prosecutors allege Liwanag attempted to sexually assault her again. This time, the woman managed to push him away and resist his actions.
She returned home the next day. She did not attend the wedding.

Authorities have requested a warrant for Liwanag's arrest, citing a belief that he poses a danger to public safety.
Liwanag’s professional background is extensive. His LinkedIn profile indicates he worked in strategy and operations at Google DeepMind. Before that, he spent nearly three years at YouTube. He also held strategy operations roles at Google and Southern California Edison.
A Google spokesperson spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday. The company confirmed Liwanag "no longer works here." They declined to provide further details. The Daily Mail reached out to both Liwanag and Google for comment.
