Ella Langley Questions Her Strength Amid Rising Criticism

Sep 29, 2026 •Entertainment

Ella Langley took the stage in Columbus, Ohio, and delivered a raw message to her crowd about the heavy weight of criticism she has endured. The 27-year-old artist confessed that the last year brought more self-doubt than ever before. "I don't think I've ever had more opinions on myself in my life than I have in this last year," she stated during a recent performance.

She listed every part of her identity under fire, from her appearance and speech to how she dresses and moves. "The way I sing. The way I write," Langley added via TikTok. "At first it bothered me." She admitted that the backlash felt overwhelming at times. "I won't even lie. At first I was like, what am I going to do about this?"

Langley questioned if she had signed up for such a struggle. "If this is what I'm signing up to do, I don't know about this," she said. She realized her goal was simply to make music, not to endure constant judgment. "I don't know if I'm strong enough for this, Lord."

Eventually, the singer found strength by reframing the attacks. She pictured the critics targeting a younger version of herself who worked tirelessly to reach her current spot. That girl rode night after night in a 15-passenger van or a Honda Accord chasing her dream. She survived on bar food and tips from strangers. "She didn't have anything but a dream and the ability to get up and do it every single day," Langley explained. "So I'm going to tell you right now, I am proud of that girl."

This resilience comes after another viral moment involving a fan in Knoxville, Tennessee. A TikTok user named Tiki shouted through a parking lot fence asking for a date. Ella replied firmly while looking away. "Not enough in the world," she said. Some viewers took issue with her refusal. One comment read, "This rubbed me the wrong way." Another asked, "Literally what is her problem?" A third suggested she could have been softer.

Despite the online noise, Langley continues to smash records. Her hit track, Choosin' Texas, has ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for a historic 24 consecutive weeks. It beat Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You, which spent 22 cumulative weeks atop the charts between 2019 and 2026.

Langley struggled to process the massive reaction to her song recently. "I'm genuinely trying to find the words to help explain what's going on in my brain today," she posted on Instagram. She felt overwhelmed by the gratitude from listeners. "What? I don't know." She thanked everyone for loving the track and listening to it. Her dog barked in the background as she tried to express her joy.

"It's changing my life," she said, noting the impact on her songwriters and family too. "It's truly growing an atmosphere for something I'm gonna be able to do the rest of my life." She felt the moment was surreal. "Today doesn't feel like a real thing. It feels fake." She joked that someone might come in later and laugh, saying they were kidding all along.

The country star planned to celebrate her success before signing off with a playful reference to her song. Choosin' T… that's the one huh?
