Earthquake Devastates Cali as Volunteers Race Against Time for Survivors

From the broken concrete and twisted steel of Cali, Al Jazeera's Latin America Editor Lucia Newman stands amidst the wreckage where an apartment building once stood tall. The air is thick with dust and the sound of desperate digging. Thousands of volunteers have flocked to this scene in Colombia's third-largest city, driven by a single hope: find one more survivor before it is too late.

Monday's earthquake has already pushed the death toll higher than anyone dared to imagine. In Cali, the shaking was felt most violently, leaving scars that stretch far beyond the initial impact zone. The search goes on, relentless and brutal against the clock. Every hour brings new rubble to clear and new lives at stake. This is not a drill; it is a race against time in the heart of a shattered community.
