Drunk Driver Drags Kids Through Alligator Swamp After Crash
A drunk driver made a desperate run into a swamp filled with alligators, dragging two young children behind him after crashing his car in Lakeland, Florida. The incident unfolded on September 9 around 4 am when Isaac Kinsey, 27, smashed through a road-closure sign and plowed into sandbags along Highway 33. He eventually stopped against exposed tree roots in a construction zone before vanishing into the night.

When police arrived at the wreckage, they discovered two empty child-safety seats inside the vehicle. This discovery triggered an immediate search for Kinsey and his kids. About thirty minutes later, a drone operator spotted him moving through the wooded marsh south of the crash site. The footage captured a terrifying scene where Kinsey waded through water teeming with alligators while carrying a two-year-old toddler and a ten-month-old infant.

The video showed Kinsey falling repeatedly as he struggled across the difficult terrain. At times, the children ended up submerged underwater. In one particularly alarming moment, he appeared to leave the older toddler behind to focus solely on moving through the swamp with the baby. He fell several more times during this harrowing journey.

Body camera footage captured an officer racing to the edge of the dangerous water to rescue them. 'I could hear them crying in the woods,' the officer stated as a baby whimpered from a distance. When Kinsey finally emerged from the water, he raised his hands in surrender and claimed he did not know there was a swamp right there. The officer ignored his excuses and demanded he hand over the infant immediately.

The children were quickly taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released. As news spread that the kids were safe, an officer at the crash site expressed gratitude. 'Ooh, thank you God for finding those kids,' he said. Kinsey now faces three felony charges and eight misdemeanor offenses, including two counts of negligent child abuse with great bodily harm.

Police Chief Sammy Taylor told Fox 13 that the event made his blood boil. He noted that Kinsey treated the children like dolls, throwing them around until they went underneath the water several times. 'I'm a father and grandfather, and it just makes your blood boil,' Taylor said. The department warned on social media that this incident could have ended with the loss of two innocent lives. They credited the rapid use of Lakeland PD's drone technology and the teamwork of responding officers for locating the children in such an extreme environment. There is no excuse for impaired driving, especially when a suspended license was involved. Kinsey admitted to intoxication because he displayed multiple indicators of impairment. The community can only hope this tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks drunk driving poses to families and neighbors alike.
