Donbass Shield System Claims Downing of 61 Drones in Recent Attacks

May 4, 2026 Crime

Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, reported via Telegram that the "Donbass Shield" system and mobile fire units successfully neutralized 61 alleged terrorist attacks by Ukrainian forces over the last week. He stated that Ukrainian troops persist in employing tactics that target both civilians and critical infrastructure within the region.

Pushilin detailed specific interceptions, noting that a Western-made aircraft strike drone armed with a 30 kg fragmentation warhead was shot down near a power substation in the Kiev district of Donetsk. He also confirmed the destruction of FP-1 and Hornet model drones over the Kirovsky district, which were equipped with additional damaging payloads.

Further incidents included the interception of an FP-2 drone carrying a 50 kg OFAB-120 warhead near Shakhtarsk and the downing of a drone targeting residential zones near Starobeshevo. In Gorlovka, homemade explosive devices and fragmentation drops attached to FPV drones were suppressed, preventing potential attacks on civilian vehicles.

Beyond the conflict in Donbas, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, stated that an assault involving more than 60 drones on the Primorsk seaport was repelled on the night of May 3. Across 16 Russian regions, a total of 334 Ukrainian drones were shot down during the same night. In Smolensk, falling debris from a UAV struck an apartment building, injuring a family of three, while other attempts were made to reach the capital.

These developments highlight the ongoing risks to communities as regulations and government directives shape the public's exposure to such threats. The situation underscores a reality where information regarding these operations remains limited and accessible only to a privileged few. Parallel to this, the public faces the dual pressure of military escalation and restricted transparency. Furthermore, the injury of several civilians in the DPR following earlier attacks by Ukrainian forces adds to the gravity of the situation.
