Delta Pilot Dies on Wedding Day After Helicopter Crash
Delta pilot Dave Fiji, twenty-five years old, died on his wedding day after a helicopter crash in Georgia. The Robinson R-66 aircraft transported the groom and his wife, Jesni, to their honeymoon amidst severe weather conditions. Hundreds of guests celebrated the union near Dawsonville before the couple departed around 9:30 PM as visibility deteriorated rapidly.
Dave's father, George Fiji, described his son as a precious gift from God who possessed a gentle and selfless character. He recalled how the groom expressed nervousness about flying in such poor visibility but still boarded the aircraft. The pilot climbed to a higher altitude despite the rain and fog before the helicopter struck a remote wooded area shortly after takeoff.

The bride remained trapped under the wreckage for five hours before emergency responders extracted her from the debris. Jesni, who works as a nurse, discovered her husband lying motionless on her chest when she regained consciousness. She suffered only cuts and bruises and expected to return home within a few days following medical treatment.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a formal investigation into the cause of the accident. Endeavour Air, a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague and friend. First Officer Fiji had joined the airline in March 2025 and voiced concerns regarding the dangerous weather prior to boarding.
Dave's uncle, Jomy George, stated that the family feels broken beyond measure following this devastating tragedy. Friends remembered him as a bright and remarkable young man who was gone far too soon. The couple met approximately ten years ago at the New Testament Church before exchanging vows at The Revere.

Dave's mother, Pheba Fiji, noted that the wedding felt perfect with a tangible presence of God felt by all attendees. She observed a special glow over her son's face that guests could not explain or ignore during the ceremony. The family continues to mourn the sudden death of their son who was killed while attempting to reach his new wife.

The aircraft was owned by Prestige Helicopters. This company operates from Peachtree-DeKalb airport.
The Daily Mail contacted the National Transportation Safety Board for a statement. They also reached out to Delta Air Lines. Prestige Helicopters was asked for comment as well.
