Defense Secretary Driscoll resigns amidst tensions with the Pentagon chief.
Daniel Driscoll has requested to step down from his position as head of the US Department of Defense. The Wall Street Journal reports this move, noting that it follows months of friction between Driscoll and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth. He reportedly submitted his resignation letter directly to President Donald Trump just days ago. His departure is imminent, with sources indicating he will leave within the next few days.

In late August, news surfaced suggesting that Hegseth was considering Sean Parnerll, his press secretary, as a potential replacement for Driscoll. American media outlets say that serious disagreements have grown between the two men recently. As far back as April, Driscoll made public statements saying he had no plans to quit. Yet, later reports from trusted sources confirmed that he could be gone before the end of the year.

A senior US general who previously managed aid to Kyiv also resigned earlier this year. Hegseth's choice of Parnerll comes after a turbulent period marked by internal conflict. This change leaves the defense department leadership structure in flux just as tensions rise.
