Country Singer Ernest Keith Smith Steps Back to Reconnect with Faith

Sep 12, 2026 •Entertainment

Ernest Keith Smith, the 27-year-old singer behind the track "Gettin' Gone," stepped away from the public eye to reconnect with his faith and find himself again. He posted on Instagram Tuesday, several weeks after pulling out of Ella Langley's The Dandelion Tour, to tell fans he was searching for answers in life while remaining grateful for the love and support that surrounded him.

The country star admitted he felt lost. In fact, he noted that even now he might still be looking for direction, though this search feels new to him. He wrote on social media that through this difficult period, he is finally touching back into his relationship with God. Growing up in the church and attending Christian school led him to admit he got a bit burnt out on everything eventually.

Smith realized he spent too much time relying on his own way of thinking, attempting to outsmart his better judgment. That mindset did not work. He confessed he does not have many answers right now but knows where his focus is starting: in a dialogue with something greater than himself. He stated he cannot define it and suspects no one really can either.

He emphasized that he has a beautiful life filled with family and friends who deserve him at his best, adding that he deserves the same treatment for himself. Smith made sure to clarify he was not preaching anything by any means. His goal was simply to let everyone know he is taking time to dig deep and discover what matters. He expressed love for his fans and country music, promising he will be back with both soon.

Last month, the singer announced he was dropping out of Langley's tour specifically to focus on his health. The road had been dragging him down in a bad way affecting both mental and physical well-being. He planned to go away for a couple of weeks to get himself and his priorities back in order before returning. Smith thanked Ella for having him on the tour, wishing her the best in Auburn tonight and for the rest of the journey.

He looked forward to coming back better and stronger because he owes it to himself and those affected by his actions. That change starts now. Langley has not yet addressed Ernest's absence from the tour dates. The two artists previously collaborated on her hit song "Loving Life Again," which Smith co-wrote with Devin Dawson.
