Conor Kennedy Weds Brazilian Pop Star in Sun-Drenched Rio
Rio de Janeiro's sun-drenched beaches, steep mountaintops, and cobblestone historic streets hosted the wedding celebration for Conor Kennedy and Brazilian pop star Giulia Bourguignon Marinho earlier this month. Photos from the event have flooded social media in recent days. Conor Kennedy is a son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who currently serves as secretary of Health & Human Services in the Trump administration. The three-day party started on Oct. 8, reports say. It featured a blessing at the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, an official ceremony inside Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé downtown, and a reception at a historic mansion in Jardim Botânico.

The couple tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Los Angeles back in March, according to Vogue. Giulia Be told the magazine they wanted to celebrate both the wedding and Rio de Janeiro itself. "Being there, overlooking Rio, with our family was one of those moments I'll never forget," Marinho said. Earlier this year she explained to Globo that bringing all of Kennedy's friends and his family to Brazil seemed like her only real chance. She told them she wanted everyone to have a good time. She recalled telling her then-fiancé, "My love, I love you, but I'm not getting married in Massachusetts."

The church where the couple exchanged vows sits in Rio's historic center and is commonly called Antiga Sé. It dates back to 1808 when the Portuguese royal court arrived in Brazil, transforming it into their royal chapel and cathedral. Nearby stands Praça XV de Novembro, a historic square that hosts a Saturday flea market where shoppers browse antiques, records, and clothes, as The New York Times noted. Visitors can also see waterfront views from this area along with other historic sites.

The festivities reportedly began with a welcome party in the hills of Alto da Boa Vista. The next day guests played beach volleyball on Ipanema before heading up to Corcovado Mountain for the blessing at Christ the Redeemer. That statue sits within Tijuca National Park, where visitors can take in sweeping views across the city. The reception took place at Instituto Brando Barbosa in Jardim Botânico, a neighborhood that also holds the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. This public attraction is famous for its plant collection and historic grounds.

Conor Kennedy is a grandson of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, President John F. Kennedy's brother. Vogue noted Marinho wore a Calvin Klein slip dress for the wedding blessing that evoked the understated elegance of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Conor Kennedy's late aunt by marriage. RFK Jr. shared family photos from the event on social media. The pictures showed the wedding party beneath Christ the Redeemer; his wife, Cheryl Hines, pictured alongside samba dancers; and the newly married couple checking their phones for updates on the Seminoles-Cardinals game. On Instagram she replied, "Love you, Bobby." She added, "It made me so happy seeing all of you enjoying my hometown.
